Leah Kolb | Curator of Exhibitions, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art
Leah Kolb is the curator of exhibitions at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). She worked closely with senior curator emeritus Richard Axsom for several years as MMoCA’s Associate Curator, prior to being promoted to her current position in June 2017. Together, Kolb and Axsom undertook their last curatorial collaboration at MMoCA with the traveling exhibition Frank Stella Prints: A Retrospective (2016) and the accompanying publication “Frank Stella: Prints: A Catalogue Raisonné.” They continue working together remotely on a catalogue raisonné of Terry Winters’ prints and drawings, slated to be published in 2020. Kolb’s recent curatorial interests are focused on projects with contemporary artists who address complex sociopolitical issues through experimental approaches to art, which has resulted in exhibitions of work by such artists as Claire Stigliani, Kambui Olujimi, Rashaad Newsome, José Teixeira, and Irene Grau. Upcoming exhibitions include solo presentations by William J. O’Brien (Chicago, IL) and Nathaniel Mary Quinn (New York, NY).
Larry Frank | Owner, Frank Productions
Larry Frank is the co-owner and CEO of Madison-based Frank Productions, Inc. As one of the largest independent promoters in the United States, Frank Productions produces concerts in clubs, theaters, arenas, stadiums, and outdoor festival settings for rock, adult contemporary, mainstream, and country artists, as well as children’s shows and touring Broadway productions. Larry’s hobbies include oil painting at his Madison art studio and studying at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, CO.
As lead promoter at Frank Productions, Larry is responsible for booking artists, negotiating contracts with venues across the U.S. and working with agents and managers on a daily basis. In his capacity as CEO, Larry is responsible for co-managing the day-to-day operations of Frank Productions, Inc. and providing advisory services to the Presidents of its 5 affiliated companies: Frank Productions Concerts, LLC in Madison; National Shows 2, LLC in Nashville; CMoore Live, LLC in Boise; ABI Management, LLC in Nashville; National Events, LLC in Denver.
Jim Esacalante | Professor of Book Arts, Art Department, UW-Madison
Jim A. Escalante is a Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He joined the faculty in 1989, and served as Chair of the Department of Art from 2001-2006, and 1995-1998. His areas of creative activity are in artist’s books, photography, and graphic design. He began teaching in higher education in 1989. Samples of his limited edition artists’ book are Included in a dozen university special collections and museums. As a photographer and graphic designer he has worked with museums and national publications. Professor Escalante earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from North Texas State University. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Typography and Photography from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
