Dane Arts, the County's Arts and Cultural Affairs Office, invites you to apply to DABL2019!

Dane Arts Buy Local (DABL) is a program within Dane Arts that connects local artists and businesses. By combining unique vending opportunities with professional development workshops, DABL directly supports the work of Dane County artists in recognition of their impact on the local economy.

More than $100,000 in reported sales and commissions has been generated by artists to-date.

~ BOOTH SIZES ~

There are a total of 22 booth spaces for this years event. Electric available, and Artists will provide all displays, tables, extension cords power strips and chairs for their space.

Booth dimensions vary but are generally 7' x 6' or 8' x 5'

~ APPLICATION FEE ~

There is a $25 non-refundable application fee to apply for this event. You will be required to pay via PayPal (you can use a credit or debit card) to complete your application submission. All application fees will be processed through Yahara Bay Distillery. These fees will cover the cost of renting the space.

If you are accepted into the show, Artists will also be required to pay Dane Arts 30% of their total sales for the duration of the DABL Market and gallery exhibit. Artists will be asked to track sales during the event. A form will be provided at the event and will assist in tracking our Pledge to Purchase initiative. All commissions collected at DABL will be recirculated back into future DABL events and activities solely to support individual artists.

~ OTHER BENEFITS ~

All DABL applicants will automatically have their art included in the pool of candidates for the 2020 Dane Arts Poster and Calendar.

Applicants will be invited to attend our Art & Business workshops free-of-charge, regardless of being accepted to DABL2019. These workshops will be held in September at Promega Corporation.

Guests that attend the DABL2019 market events will be able to vote on their favorite exhibiting artists. The three artists with the most votes will receive prizes, which are to be determined at this time. The prizes last year were:

1st - gift card to Eno Vino, a bottle of wine, and a one night stay at AC Hotel

2nd - a one night stay at HotelRED

3rd - a $50 gift card to Merchant

All DABL2018 artists received a $25 gift card to Lucille.

~ PLEDGE TO PURCHASE ~

DABL is reaching out to local businesses and offering advertising through DABL in exchange for their pledge to purchase art at either of this year's markets. This is to help drive more sales for artists leading up to the event, and promote the businesses that support local art.

How should participating artists price their work?

In pricing work it's important to keep in mind that there are a variety of people that come to DABL with the intent of purchasing local art. Some people attend representing large companies with spending budgets meant to add art to corporate collections or decorate office spaces. Some people attend as individual supporters, where the art they purchase will more than likely help to decorate a home for personal fulfillment, or be gifted. This said, artists should price their work to meet a variety of interests. $50 - $5,000 is a fair range to consider.

If your goal is to sell many pieces during the event consider bringing work that is priced at or under $500. If your goal is to show a diversity of your work to garner commissions and special orders then you may want to have higher priced items that display your finest show pieces.

Artists should also be sure to take into account the time and resources it took to create the art they're selling. The pricing of each piece should be visible, and consistent throughout a presented body of work.
